"From critical aerospace materials to a resilient global supply chain, we're looking for a Raw Materials Manager to help shape Sphere's raw materials strategy."
About Sphere
Sphere is a global aerospace and advanced materials company supplying high-performance metals and alloys to leading OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and strategic partners worldwide.
We're building more than a materials distribution business. Sphere is developing an end-to-end materials platform connecting raw material sourcing, the superalloy supply chain, manufacturing partnerships, and global distribution.
About the Role
As our Raw Materials Manager, you'll take ownership of procurement, sales, and supply strategy for the raw materials used in Sphere's production of high-performance metals and alloys.
You'll work with a wide range of materials, including elemental metals such as nickel (Ni), cobalt (Co), and titanium (Ti), as well as scrap, revert, and hollows. You'll build and manage global supplier relationships while helping establish a reliable and cost-effective sourcing network.
This role goes beyond purchasing materials. You'll analyze market dynamics, develop procurement strategies, and directly contribute to Sphere's cost competitiveness and supply stability.
You'll also work closely with our leadership team, contributing to key decisions on raw materials strategy. As Sphere expands, there will be opportunities to support nickel and cobalt sales and trading activities.
In your first six months, your key priorities will be to stabilize raw material sourcing, improve visibility into input costs, and establish the foundation for a long-term sourcing strategy.
What You'll Do
- Lead end-to-end procurement of elemental metals, including nickel (Ni), titanium (Ti), cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), niobium (Nb), tungsten (W), molybdenum (Mo), iron (Fe), and copper (Cu), as well as scrap and revert.
- Source and manage hollows used as production input materials.
- Identify, qualify, and develop relationships with suppliers across the global raw materials market.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and commercial terms with suppliers.
- Monitor LME prices and other key market indicators to assess raw material trends.
- Manage supplier performance, including lead times, quality, and on-time delivery.
- Forecast raw material demand based on order backlog and melt plans, and develop purchasing strategies accordingly.
- Manage sales of input materials, including scrap and revert, when needed.
- Provide regular updates to leadership on market trends, pricing, inventory, and supply risks.
- As Sphere's business expands, support sales and trading activities involving elemental metals such as nickel and cobalt.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of experience in raw material procurement at a metals mill or in advanced metals procurement.
- Proven experience negotiating pricing, contracts, or other commercial terms with suppliers or customers.
- Strong ability to analyze raw material market trends and pricing structures and apply insights to purchasing decisions.
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Fluent English communication skills, including the ability to work effectively in an international business environment.
- Candidates based in Korea are preferred. International candidates are also welcome, provided they can travel to Korea on a quarterly basis.
Nice to Have
- Experience working at a superalloy mill or melt shop.
- Experience trading elemental metals such as nickel or cobalt.
- Experience in scrap and revert procurement, sales, or trading.
- Experience in aerospace or high-performance materials supply chains.
- Korean language proficiency.
What You'll Gain at Sphere
- Work at the heart of the global aerospace and advanced materials supply chain, gaining exposure to critical materials and international markets.
- Collaborate closely with leadership and make a meaningful impact on procurement and supply strategy.
- Expand your expertise beyond procurement into strategic sourcing and raw materials trading.
